What's the difference between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist?

In the UK podiatry is simply the new name for chiropody. The name was changed to podiatry in 1993 as it's the international recognised name for a foot specialist.

Why did they change the name?

Podiatry is a constantly evolving profession, the extensive training over the 3 or 4 years of their full-time course and the continuing education after graduation. Podiatrists can diagnose, analyse and treat a vast array of foot and lower limb problems from the hip down. The roll of a podiatrist can also be seen as a Gate Keeper of health as we can quickly recognize skin conditions and changes to your general persona of all our patients and advise and refer correctly.  The most general treatments for a podiatrist are corns and hard skin, verruca and generalized foot pain.

At Foot Works we are all professionally qualified HPC registered Podiatrist. Call in and see how we can help you today.
